The agent of KAA Gent star Jonathan David has admitted the youngster is ready to take the next step in his career amid speculation linking him with Manchester United, but ruled out a switch to Arsenal.

David has been one of the most in form forwards in world football this season, netting 22 goals and registered ten assists in 37 appearances in all competitions this season.

The Canadian netted a hat-trick at the weekend and rumours surrounding his future have already started.

The Daily Mail report United are monitoring the youngster and could have scouts in attendance for their Europa League fixture against Roma.

His agent - Nick Mavromaras - admitted David would be looking for a new club in the summer. However, he feels a move to Arsenal wouldn't be right.

"Without a doubt: Jonathan is ready for the next step," Mavromaras told Het Laatste Nieuws.

"Gent has boosted his career, the club did a lot for him. I understand that they would like to keep him longer, but Jonathan wants to go ahead.

"The Belgian league is fantastic for young players, but the moment for the next step arrives and this will come in the summer

"His final target is to play for one of the five best clubs in the world," he added.

"But for now, we have to stay humble. The next step in his career can’t be too big.

"For example, Arsenal. There we speak about the top five in the Premier League.

"The next step has to be an intelligent one. There, this would possibly be a step too big at the moment. The whole package has to be right. An intermediate step can be better sometimes."

United fans on Twitter were pleased to see the club being linked with a talented prospect.

David's previous comments on rivals Liverpool are sure to make him a hit with supporters if he does move to Old Trafford.

David said: "I love all teams in the Premier League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, but also Southampton, Crystal Palace, Everton … I like nice teams. I’m just not a big fan of Liverpool."
