Leicester City striker Islam Slimani has asked to end his loan at Monaco after Manchester United made a shock enquiry for him.

United are eager to bring in Slimani on loan but have been told that such a deal would cost them £4million.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are desperate to bring in a striker before Friday's transfer deadline, with Marcus Rashford set to be out for around two months with a stress fracture in his back.

Solskjaer can call upon Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood, but United are certainly in need of an additional option up front.


Slimani has scored seven goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco this season, while he has also provided seven assists. 

The 31-year-old has missed Monaco's last two league games with a muscle injury.

Algeria international Slimani joined Leicester from Sporting in 2016 but has spent much of his Foxes career out on loan.

Prior to linking up with Monaco, Slimani had loan spells with Newcastle and Fenerbahce.

Slimani has scored 13 goals in 46 appearances for Leicester, where his contract runs until the summer of 2021.
